I feel very grateful for all the blessings in my life – I truly do! However, there are times that are more challenging triggered by a memory or in this case a significant date. As I sit here on the couch, I cannot believe that it has been eight years since Robin died. He was my best friend, partner, built-in companion and not having him is a big void in my heart. Most times, I carry on and have been very fulfilled. Yet there are moments that I really miss our conversations, the ability to co-parent and the many laughs we shared together. I know he is with me and feel his presence and love around everyday. Although I physically long for him, I am more grounded and maneuver this world in a more confident way. There is a sense of comfort knowing that I have divine protection and infinite love around Isabelle and me. I wish we never had to go through the loss of such a good human being, it has been a powerful lesson and know it was part of our life path. So as I wake up to the anniversary of the worst day of my life, I am incredibly content and appreciative of where I am at today. And with that being said, even more proud of my smart and beautiful daughter Isabelle.
Isabelle and I have really had to adjust and redefine our relationship over the last eight years. We are closer than ever and I am in AWH of how she has matured and become a strong, empathetic and ambitious woman. She has followed her desire to work for the State Department and move to DC. Of course there have been highs and lows, but watching her figure things out and forming her own identify is very gratifying. She is the ultimate combination of Robin and me (at least most of our best attributes). She is quick witted, grounded, a master networker, solid project management, well-informed and has a point of view. She loves music (just like her daddy), global minded and can see both sides to an argument. The one area that I am mostly amazed by is her strength and resilience. She recently made a very brave decision which would be difficult for any seasoned adult. That was the moment that I realized Robin and I must have done something right as parents.
It is a beautiful thing when you believe your children are an upgrade to humanity. Her level of critical thinking and heart centered compassion for others is just the greatest gift for a mother. I know Robin is guiding her from the other side and remains an active influence to her. Yet, I would love to have just a short moment with him to exchange a high five and celebrate the evolution of our little girl and acknowledge how far she has come. 💪 ☀️
As I sit here with mixed emotions from missing my guy and reflecting on how I have enriched my life, it is confusing and at the same time makes perfect sense. I think this was the journey I was supposed to experience and I know I am a better person, parent, sister and friend because of it. Isabelle has a strong foundation primarily provided by her dad and I am so happy that she had those quality years with him. I wish she did not have to lose her father at such a young age – it is really unfair. Yet, with all of that, she has made the most of the life she has been given, continues to move forward and shape her wonderful future. What a moment truly …. I guess the point of all of this rambling is that we are given one life and we have to realize that it sometimes it can be the most amazing bumpy ride. It is all about the way we view our circumstances. Wishing everyone much peace and love – until next time. Miss you Robin ❤️😇
